Black Belt International Training Weekend
23rd May 2008
On the weekend of Saturday 23rd May 2008,
Mark Raistrick (CEO Taisho-Do Karate Association), Derek Laing (Chief Instructor of the S.K.A.) and fellow instructors Steve Colvin and Dorothy
Leach were also joined by family members and students Kaylee Leach, Nicolle Leach and Nicole Laing to the weekend event held at the Hilton Hotel at Bradford.
The organisers used all the space the hotel had available to offer a multitude of opportunities
to train with some of the world's top martial artists. As well as the martial arts workshops Black Belt International also provided courses in instructing, coaching, child protection, refereeing, health and safety. All the courses
are fully certificated and are endorsed by the local authorities and other governmental departments in the U.K.
A grading panel consisting of some of the most highly respected martial artists from around the U.K. provided an electric
environment for all the candidates going for 1st Dan and above. They all rose to the occasion and those who passed knew they had worked hard and earned their grades.
On the Saturday evening a gala banquet was held giving the guests
a chance to mix with celebrities such as Silvio Simac from the Jet Li film "Unleashed",
world champions and internationally renowned martial artists.
After a great five course meal the evening consisted of live entertainment, award presentations, some fantastic demonstrations and finished with a disco to the early hours.
Sensei Derek Laing was awarded his 4th Dan in Shotokan Karate
for Dedication and Commitment to the Martial Arts.
Sensei Mark Raistrick was also presented with an Award for his Dedication and Commitment to the Martial Arts.
On Sunday there were top workshops to get involved with such as Emma Elmes of the Silver Dragons, Silvio Simac Dynamic Kicking, Clive Elliots' Defendo, Knife Defence, Progressive Martial Arts, Action Film Stunts. etc.
Taisho-Do
