We are pleased to announce that the Whitby based T.S.K.A., headed by Sensei Steve Burke (5th Dan) based in Hertfordshire and Instructed by Karen, Mark & Liam Parkin have joined the Taisho-Do Karate group and will be now known as Whitby T.S.K.A. (T.A.S.K.)

NOVEMBER
2007

We are pleased to announce that the Guisborough based Sokudo Karate group has just joined Taisho-Do. Sokudo is headed by Chief Instructor Sensei Enrico Capaldi (6th Dan) who has over 37 years of Shukokai experience and will bring a wealth of knowledge and skills to Taisho-Do. Sokudo also have the benefit of the skills of Nigel Houston (5th Dan) and Sensei Peter Littlewood (2nd Dan).

We are pleased to announce that Sensei Harold Stevenson (5th Dan, Shotokan Karate) has taken on the role of Taisho-Do (T.A.S.K.) Chief Referee. Sensei Stevenson is an experienced E.K.F. Referee and will bring a wealth of knowledge to our competition squads and future referees.

We are pleased to announce that the Sunderland Karate Academy has now affiliated to Taisho-Do. Headed by Sensei Derek Laing (3rd Dan) this adds four clubs in Sunderland to our roster and an abundance of top class karateka.

TASK is proud to welcome two new members from Finland. Mikael and Laura Wood have grandparents in in Filey, close to the Whitby dojo, and intend to continue their successful competition careers in the UK.

Apart from widening their knowledge of karate, membership of TASK will give them experience of a different culture to their own and provide a base should they decide to visit, live, and/or study in England.

Laura Wood - 19, brown belt, Wado Ryu. Finnish Club: Tapanilla Era.
Junior silver medallist at WKF World Championships.
Has won tournaments in Estonia, Italy and Hungary.
Member of the Finnish National Squad.
Fought in Talinn this month at the European Championships - but lost to the former world champion by 1 point in overtime.

Mikael Wood - 14, blue belt, Shorinji-Ryu. Finnish Club: Renshin Kan.
Finnish Junior Champion in his age/weight category for the last two years.
Has been at tournaments in Estonia, Sweden and the UK.
Won his category two years running at Ticky Donovan's summer camp.

Congratulations go to to Sensei Derek Laing, Chief Instructor Sunderland Karate Academy on being awarded his 4th Dan.

His award was made at the BNMAA/BLACK BELT INTERNATIONAL training weekend at Bradford, 24/25 May, a great weekend of top martial artists.

Well done, Derek!
